Pregnancy Options in the Puget Sound

Did you know that as a pregnant woman in Western Washington, you have options?
This may sound like a simple question with a simple answer, but I am blown away by how many women don't know their options before they conceive or after finding out they are pregnant.
Did you know you can have your baby at home, at a birthing center or at the hospital?
Did you know that most insurances (including state insurance) covers care under a midwife? Do you know what a midwife does or how she(he) differs from an obstetrician or a family physician? Did you know that there are different philosophies that govern obstetric providers? For example, did you know that obstetricians are trained as "high risk providers?" This means they are trained to care for sickness in pregnancy (not wellness). Midwives on the other hand are trained in "low risk" which means believing that every pregnant woman is healthy and low risk until proven otherwise. This means a hands off approach lett you determine which direction to take in many areas of pregnancy and delivery. This means working with you, educating you and learning from you during the process of pregnancy, labor and delivery. This is just a start for me. Tune in for more info on midwifery and on other pregnancy related topics. For more info on midwives in Washington state, visit: www.midwivesofwa.org.
